I am thankful for…

Happy Thanksgiving, Flickr!

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for John Tyner, the man who filmed and blogged about his encounter with the TSA, during which he famously told them, “If you touch my junk, I’ll have you arrested.”

In fact, I am thankful for everyone who has ever stood up to the man or fought for freedom. When the TSA began rolling out the strip-search machines with a vengeance because of the failed “underwear bomber” last Christmas, I feared that the American people would just accept this atrocity as a necessary evil, foolishly believing that any increase in safety is good, regardless of the cost in liberty. Thankfully, I was wrong. No matter what the outcome of the current TSA protests, I am proud to live in a country where people still believe that liberty is more important than security, that people have rights that can never be violated, and that requiring people to let their private parts either be seen or touched in order to board an airplane.

I am thankful for the Bill of Rights and the freedoms enshrined therein, as well as all people who, deep in their hearts, believe in liberty.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy (politically correct) Thanksgiving!

Filed under: history & holidays by Victoria Liberty @ 11:31 am

An elementary school in California has forbidden kindergarteners from dressing up as pilgrims and Indians this Thanksgiving. According to some parents, wearing headdresses and pilgrim hats is “demeaning” and “a racist stereotype.”

I can think of a lot of things that are demeaning, and wearing pilgrim and Indian outfits isn’t one of them. Headdresses, beads, and vests are a simplified way of representing typical Native American clothing, just as pilgrim hats and collars are a simplified way of representing what the pilgrims wore. There’s nothing bad about wearing a headdress, so how is it insulting to Native Americans for kids to wear headdresses? What is demeaning about acting out a historical event?

Political correctness has gotten way out of hand. Things that should be simple and fun are forced to become bland, meaningless, and pointless.

Have a great Thanksgiving, and don’t let the PC police ruin it!

No thanks for Gardasil

Filed under: health by Victoria Liberty @ 10:19 pm

Argh! I saw an advertisement for Gardasil for the first time today! The TV ad, which aired on CBS, featured young women vowing that the HPV vaccine would make them “one less.” One less what? One less innocent virgin? Apparently, because no one who intends to remain a virgin would have any reason to receive Gardasil. Another Gardasil ad will appear in TV Guide, if I am not mistaken. Bad job, CBS and TV Guide; you are aiding the sexual supremacist culture in its attempt to eradicate innocence and celibacy from America!

Have a great Thanksgiving, fellow Americans. I hope you have many things to celebrate this Thanksgiving, but Gardasil sure isn’t one of them!
